Anyone have any great links for San Antonio weddings? DD is thinking about getting married there. She is in Oklahoma. FH is from Houston. We live in Arkansas so she thinks that might be a good in between location. *I am so not happy about the idea but hey, it is her wedding. My job is just to help her plan and pay for it. :heee: *
*Gina*
07-16-2006, 08:08 PM
 HA HA HA!! YES BIZ! You ROCK! I've got some SA information. Let me see if I can find it. Does this mean we can meet up after her wedding? :heee:
EDIT: Mama D, I think I can figure out Biz's style, but give me some ideas anyway. ;)
*Ashley*
07-16-2006, 11:40 PM
Did y'all know the girl on Bridezillas tonight (Angela I think her name is) is from Houston? I should go watch quickly (I fast forward through most of it anyway, LOL) and see where it was if it shows it!
edit: Okay wedding at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (I thought that was a Catholic church by Minute Maid, but apparently there are two) and reception at the Rice Crystal Ballroom. I've been to a reception there, and the wedding was gorgeous but insanely expensive (I think that price tag was around $75K! That makes sense that the bridezilla's wedding carries a $110K price tag!

I think Kate and I are going to start a journal for Biz, Gina. She is highly conflicted at the moment about what she wants, what she likes. They aren't completely "married" to the idea of Oct. 27th, 2007. Mostly she would like something sleek and classy, maybe something Italian based because he loves the Sopranos. She mentioned something gangster-ish, maybe flapper style. :dunno:

Bleh... this Texas weather is driving me nuts!!! It was over 105 yesterday!!!
Hey Texans! I'm from Houston-ish- Katy, to be exact. And may I say, I'm loving this weather Houston's been having lately. Sorry to all you Dallas ladies- I know it's stinkin' hot up here- but I was actually a little bit COLD sitting downtown waiting for a bus today! It's wonderful!

My mom and sister are going to be in town from Michigan so we're planning to go for a little while.
dolphincc
07-28-2006, 12:34 PM
Last weekend DH and I went to the Riverwalk for a mini vaca. We stayed at the Omni Mansions Del Rio. It was horrible. Everything is old, dirty and hot. Apparently they will renovate next year.
I went to the Bridal Extravaganza last Sunday. We went in January, too, and we went on Saturday- whoa, Sunday is the day to go. There were more vendors there in January- I don't know if that's because they come only for Saturdays so I just missed them this month, or if it was because the vendors come in the winter to get the summer brides and then not as many brides go in the summer because they're already married. Either way, it was pretty fun- except I had a migraine and was miserable.
Apparantly I like dashes today- they're quite useful.
Hey Houstonians- any of you going to the Bridal Preview International showcase? I heard about them at the extravaganza and they called me and I'm going to the show purely for the "no obligation" free trip. Anybody else get a call from them?
blondelildevil
07-28-2006, 10:31 PM
I'm going to a bridal show on Sunday! I'll probably be goin by myself :( Never any fun that way... anyone wanna go with? hehe
*Sarah*
08-02-2006, 01:05 PM
I went to the Extravaganza on the Saturday. It was really packed but we had a good time. Since the wedding's in Michigan, most of the vendors weren't very useful to me but it was nice just to be able to do something wedding-y with my mom and sister.
No one from Bridal Preview International has contacted me. Unless that's the same as the celebrity china people who left a gazillion messages for me.
Christina - sorry to hear your hotel was :yuck: Did you still get to some fun stuff??
I got Celebrity China AND Bridal Preview International. We only did the BPI one. I'm looking forward to when we have enough money to fly to the Bahamas, Dominican, or Mexico for that hotel stay... at least that never expires, right? And when we get rich- you know, win the lottery that we never play- we're so going to buy the waterless, greasless cookware they showed us.
Anyway, I really posted to say guess what- when I went to the extravaganza a couple of weeks ago, I actually WON something! I got this letter that said "Sunday's winner of the complementary teeth whitening home (bleaching) service was Lela." The next sentence says "Although your name was not drawn for the complementary...." I was really confused. Turns out I won but they don't send out personalized letters even to the winners. So, cool- I get my teeth whitened! :D
blondelildevil
08-03-2006, 05:28 PM
Thats cool Lela! The only thing I've won from a bridal show was a $100 gift certificate for a tiara. I love going to those things just to see if I can win! :)

My family is all from Michigan. What city are you getting married in?

Yep, getting married in MI. We are getting married in East Lansing. Where's your family from?
Sk8ermaiden
08-21-2006, 04:37 PM
My mom is from Holt (my grandma still lives there), my dad is from Shelby Township, and his side of the family is from the tip of the thumb area - Caseville. Every other person I bump into up there has my last name!

WOW I haven't checked in here for a long time! LOL!!
How's everyone doing?
I've been messing around with favor ideas & such for our renewal. We bought our server set this past Sat at Things Remembered. It's SO beautiful & I'm pleased with the purchase 100%. We're going to buy the matching toasting glasses next month. We will then take both the server set & toasting glasses in to be engraved when our renewal date gets closer. And I think that's just about it. :)

I was born and raised in Houston! I grew up in the suburb of Kingwood -- it's up North, my parents still live there :) My wedding date is June 2, 2007. We're getting married at Sacred Heart Co Cathedral downtown on Pierce and our reception is at the Houston Club on Rusk street (literally so close you could spit on it, LOL). Our vendors are: Cake Affiars, The Linen House, The Lancaster Hotel (we get a free room there with our reception package at the Houston Club because our wedding is so friggin' big, oye -- over 250 people are invited but hopefully they won't all come!), Fountains of Chocolate (it's out of Kingwood), Flowers by Janice, I bought my dress at Brickhouse Bridal in the Woodlands and our Videographer/DJ is pete's Mobile DJ and our photographer is Unique Images!
I'm so excited!

i just have to say im from Minnesota... u betcha!!!
I LOVEEE how you people talk !!! U have SUCH an accent! haha
*Ashley*
10-07-2006, 09:00 AM
LOL, see I could translate your post Amber -- "Hey y'all! I'm from MN, yes sirree. I loooove how y'all talk down there! Y'all have such cute accents!"
It's really all about the y'all, don't you other TX ladies agree? It's seriously subconcious for me.
Anyhow, just to warn y'all if you haven't been to a bridal show yet -- it's overwhelmed a bit, but good to go to because you get lots of coupons and stuff. People are throwing stuff at you from every direction, so just be prepared for that. Make sure you go early because you'll need about 2-4 hours to go through it all, depending on how big it is :) we went to a smaller one and were still there for about 2 hours! Of course, that could have been because Michael went and wore a tuxedo shirt that was all the rave, haha.
blondelildevil
10-12-2006, 02:03 PM
A tux shirt! haha I love bridal shows. Theyre the best. You can register for so much stuff.
But I totally agree about the y'all. When I'm angry at someone at work I get this reeaaaallllly strong country accent. :)
Celeste&Bill
10-20-2006, 09:15 PM

Well it's been forever since anyone gave some love to our little TX thread... so how is everyone?
Also for anyone near Austin I am looking for a nice yet laid back restaurant for our anniversary dinner/vow renewal reception next year. We are thinking of renewing our vows at Chapel Dulcinea at Wizard Academy so something within decent driving distance would be nice. We don't really need someplace that rents a large space because we will be having a very small event and a restaurant with a private room would work perfect.
Thanks for any tips.
*Ashley*
05-06-2007, 10:25 AM
What about the Oasis on Lake Travis? Not sure if the Wizard Academy is in the boondocks or not, but the Oasis is 29 miles from it according to Mapquest :) The Oasis has a GORGEOUS view of Lake Travis. That might be too great a distance between the two, but it's great, nonetheless.
Hula Hut is 15 miles. That would be really laid back. It's on Lake Austin.
You know where you go too? El Arroyo downtown on I want to say 9th street. GREAT Margaritas, and the food isn't half bad (hit or miss, like most mexican food). Serano's is a great Mexican restaurant and their fajitas are AWESOME. Those are everywhere in Austin :)
ETA: Beth! On of my good friends/bridesmaid's is going there for her brother's wedding! I'll ask her where they're doing dinner afterwards (she's an event planner). That site is GORGEOUS!
Renny
05-06-2007, 04:10 PM
Ashley- Thanks soooo much for all the info :D. I found the site from someone else posting about it on here and well I've fallen in love with it. I honestly wish I had found it before and then we would have gotten married there to start with. I think within a 30 minute driving time to a restraurant is reasonable.
Candy
05-06-2007, 04:21 PM
Hmm....good info. I'm new to Austin, well I've been living here almost a year, and I've only heard of Hula Hut. Maybe I'll have to check those other places out for a nice dinner with DH.
Going to Z Tejas for an Anniversary dinner tonight! Can't believe it's been a year already.
Anyone else in Austin?
Candy

05-06-2007, 04:26 PM
Happy Anniversay Candy!
I've only been to Austin a few times years ago but it is a awesome city to visit.
*Ashley*
05-06-2007, 08:39 PM
Ooo Z Tejas has great food! Michael and I ate there when we first started dating back when we were both at UT :)
You DEFINITELY need to check out El Arroyo -- And CHUY'S -- Chuy's is awesome. Be sure to ask for the jalapeño ranch -- it's so good I swear it's laced with crack (not TOO spicy either :))
Candy
05-06-2007, 09:14 PM
I love Chuy's. Especially the creamy jalapeno dip! So addicting (maybe it is drug laced... hehe). We had a really nice waiter the last time we were there and he gave us a small container of dip to take home.
Z Tejas was very good, though we thought a little overpriced and very loud even though it was only half full.
Gumbo's in Round Rock (though I think there's one downtown too) was very good. (white table cloth cajun food)

I don't know when your cold weather will get there Ashley but I know ours got here yesterday. We hit a high of 82 on Saturday and our high yesterday was 49. :wow:
It looks like up here it will be in the 40s and rainy all week and finally warm up this weekend. I know they've been having a bad ice storm in Oklahoma...I wish just a little of it would make it down here.
DH works for TXDOT and he drives a sand truck when it ices. I want atleast one good overtime paycheck before the baby gets here. :giggle:
The only thing that sucks is that he works in 12 hour shifts maybe longer so if he does work I have to go be babysat by someone in case I go into labor.
Ok...my vent is over carry on, lol.

We WERE supposed to go to the Crystal Ballroom with our friends and have a BLAST, but that didn't pan out. *sigh*

DH and I went to one of our favorite places in Midtown. Other than the girl who kept pulling a Britney for the entire bar to see and the champagne that was shot at my head, we had a really good time! :teehee:

Where did y'all go Sarah? I swear we've probably seen each other out sometime. We go to Pub Fiction a lot, but I personally like Front Porch and Woodrows as well :) We're going to eat at Fish tonight -- YUMMY!!!
And thanks Amanda -- sick was no fun and thank you for the comment on the avatar -- I need to clean it up at home, I tried to darken it at work because the picture itself is really bright.
Big plans -- no, just going to go hit up the VS Semi-annual sale!

We went to Christian's Tailgate...we like to go on Saturdays and watch karoake and I looooove their burgers. We go to the Wet Spot every once in a while to watch Spartan games b/c that's where MSU alumni meet up. We usually end up at Buffalo Wild Wings because they are a corporate sponsor for UH Athletics and we get a bunch of free gift certificate things.
*Ashley*
01-04-2008, 03:44 PM
Oh yes we've probably definitely crossed paths :) If I see you in public and I run up to you, maybe we should make up a secret handshake :p
I love Christian's burgers -- they're SO good. I like their chicken sandwiches too! I love BW3's as well, but my hubby isn't a huge fan, boo :(

I had it on Saturday night at El Patio in midtown -- I've fully decided I hate their food. Their blue margaritas and chips, salsa and queso are it on what's good. There was a bachelorette party there and I told the girl congratulations and her friend was like "oh my God that's so nice!!" LOL -- I hope she got it a lot that night :)

Technically im in Grand Prairie. It's right between Dallas and Fort Worth.
Athena - RIGHT!! I was watching Who's Wedding is it Anyways on TV yesterday and it had Donnie Brown on it. He was doing a wedding in June... outside... in Dallas. All I could think was "Who in the heck is that crazy to want to have an outside wedding in JUNE.... IN TEXAS!???"
*Sarah*
03-31-2008, 12:12 PM
I'm in Houston...and I'm enjoying the weather right now and would be fine if it stayed similar to this. But that could be because I was silly and got pregnant at just the right time to be huge in the hottest part of the year!!!
TeenieBoggs
04-03-2008, 10:19 AM
LOL! Sarah, just about all my SIL and my step sister have been pregnant in the summer. They were all SO miserable because they were SO huge and at the end of their pregnancy which made them uncomfortable in the first place. All I know is IF the good Lord bless Gene and I with a baby and it's during the heat of the summer, you can beat my butt will be staying indoors with the AC set on freezing. :laugh3:

hehe You guys are funny...
I really don't know how this summer is going to be. Some are just EXTREMELY hot and then some aren't. I'm hoping it's one of those "not so hot" summers. :)
TeenieBoggs
04-07-2008, 08:21 PM
Girl I'm with you there! I'm SO miserable when it's freakin crazy hot out. Plus my poor baby works out in a rock quarry so freakin crazy hot weather is bad for him.

Ok ladies-- random question.
Has anyone been/lived in Midland? Would you be ok with moving there?
I'm a Dallas girl through and through and asides from Houston and San Antonio I don't know how I'd feel about moving anywhere else. :dontknow: Any insight is appreciated!
blondelildevil

I haven't been there since I was about 10 years old... all I remember was that it was boring. But then again... what isn't boring to a 10 year old ya know?
Sorry I'm not much help!

Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their new wives chores. The first man had married a woman from OHIO and had told her that she was going to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.
The second man had married a woman from KENTUCKY. He had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table.
The third man had married a beautiful girl from Texas. He told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything, but by the third day some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye enough to fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.

So who is loving this weather we are having?? Rain one minute, sun the next!!!
I just looked at the 10 day forecast and it's calling for scattered t-storms with 60% chance of rain on the 15th (16th not available yet). I'm hoping it changes ...
*Sarah*
05-06-2009, 11:26 AM
We're forecasted to be in the 90s for the next 5 days!! :sun:
Dallas area ladies - We're planning to do a weekend vacay in Dallas the last weekend of May. Already planning to catch a Rangers game - what are some other good, 8-month-old-friendly things to do? I think we'll be coming in Friday, game Friday night or Saturday, go home Saturday night or Sunday morning/afternoon.
blondelildevil
05-06-2009, 12:37 PM
Oh sounds like fun! My neighbor plays 2nd base for the Rangers :)
I'll try to think of some things... might not be great ideas since I haven't really done anything with kids... but I'll try!!!
blondelildevil
05-06-2009, 02:22 PM
OK so I thought of a few different things... depends on what you are really looking for.
Dallas Arboretum (where we had our engagement pictures done)
Fort Worth Botanical Gardens
Dallas World Aquarium - I love this place... so many really neat things and there are usually a lot of little kids around
FTW/Dallas Zoo
FH even mentioned NRH20 - I told him that the baby might be a little too small for that kind of thing.... I'm not sure if they have many kid-friendly things or not.
*Sarah*
05-11-2009, 11:15 AM
What is NRH20?
blondelildevil
05-12-2009, 11:56 AM
NRH20 is a waterpark located in North Richland Hills. I've never been there, but a few people I know have been and enjoyed it.
