hi there!
ever since the sever move I am unable to see images :( no smilies, no graphics, nothing (aside from linked images from other sites)
does anyone know why this is happening?
thanks!
Lacie

Try clearing your cache/cookies. The graphics are there, but it's possible that your browser isn't recognizing that for whatever reason. :)

Thanks Lacie,
That didn't seem to work :( Any other suggestions?

A hard refresh might solve it, if the page is being cached on a local server? :S
Try Ctrl+F5 to refresh the page. Clearing the cache should've worked, tho. Hhhhmmm...
theAmericanNtheSwede

no such luck :(

Do you have a home network?

no network... just one computer

Hhhhmmmm, the fact that you can get here means your ISP knows the site is HERE and not THERE anymore. And if the directories that images are stored in didn't change, there should be no difference? I'm at a loss. :( Sorry.

So you can see outside linked images, correct? You can see this?
http://www.driscolfamily.com/ethan/ethan9.jpg
But you can't see these (2 images)?

Can you see this?

I really don't know what to say about the images. I'll poke around and see what I can come up with though. :)

ok... now i am using firefox and it looks even stranger. there are no Xs, but all of the Xs are now replaced with text links :(
Lacie
07-25-2006, 12:25 PM
OK. Clear your cache again, in both browsers, then close them. Open up a command prompt (Start, Run, type cmd in the box), and type ipconfig /registerdns at the prompt. Then come back and see if that changes anything.

are you just clearing your cache or are you dumping your internet temp files as well?
Lacie
07-28-2006, 01:02 AM
OK, here's what I've figured out so far. For some reason, you don't have authorization to access that directory. And I can't for the life of me figure out why, because it's just you, and I don't have a password on that directory. I need to check back in at vbulletin.org to see if anyone else has come up with anything, but I'm at my MIL's house for the weekend and I can't get to it until Monday. But hopefully by next week I'll have an answer for you! :crossfing:

Here's a weird kind of update - I'm only getting this on my desktop computer. My laptop is fine. I'm logged in in both. I've cleared the cache on my desktop. I've refreshed. I'm not getting any forum images, including smilies. So weird!!
Jimbo

When you say cleared cache are you just clearing your cache, deleting interente temp files, or both?
lunarmagic

I didn't delete temp files yet, guess I'll do that next time I'm at that puter.

If you spend a lot of time on the forums or on the internet in general and you don't dump your temp files (epecially the cookies) like once a week that kind of thing can happen. Most of the time just dumping both your cache and all temp files in will take care of the problem.
Assuming of course it isn't a rights thing like Lacie is looking into which it I don't see how it can be for you since you work fine one computer and not on another.

Sad to say, that still didn't work. :( Maybe it's the laptop that's hanging onto the old files and working when it shouldn't. I don't want to mess it up though!

Sorry that didn't help. I know that I talked to a lot of people that were on UW that had that same problem and all of them that I had to that it worked for them.
So I don't know what else it could be because the way the problem is presenting it self it sounds like you are having a cookie/cache problem.
Did you got to DOS and flush all of your cache or just do the hold don't shift and the click on refresh trick?

Tried both... shift refresh is always my first attempt, but I actually went and deleted all temp files from the folder in my documents and settings folder, and went into FF settings/options and cleared my cache there and temp files. No luck.

Go to the command prompt and flush it there. That will get all of it works way better then the holding shift and refresh or any other option that you have in any broswer.
lunarmagic

How do you do that? I've never used the command prompt for clearing temp files.
Jimbo
07-29-2006, 01:47 PM
Click on start go to run, type in cmd. That will bring up the Command prompt. Then in that black box type in "ipconfig /flushdns". That will reset all your dns settings and clear all your cache on your system.
When ever the shift refreash thing doesn't work you should try this next.

You might have something blocked in FF or something. I would check all of your settings and then if all else fails. Uninstall it redownload and then reinstall.
lunarmagic
07-29-2006, 05:57 PM
Just reinstalled, same problem. I find that when I view the image (like http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/images/mlwlogo.png) directly, I can't see it in IE either... it says "You do not have permission to access this page." But if I just go to the site I can view it.
I'm so lost at this point.
Jimbo
07-29-2006, 06:17 PM
yeah it shouldn't let you just browse to the picture directly but it would show up it it wsa referenced on a page that you have have access to.

I have the same problem. I can see some graphics, but not most of them. It seems to have gotten BETTER after clearing all temp files/coookies/history. But still alot of smilies aren't showing, and the logo and stuff. I think it's very wierd that some will show up and some don't.

And the problem is happening in both browsers and you said you dumped the temps files and cache. Did you do the command prompt way like I talked about up there?
If you did this is a new problem that I have never seen before I and I am stumped but it seems to be something on your computers since there doesn't seem to be toom many that are having the problem and one lunar is only having the problem with FF.
*alissa*
07-30-2006, 11:58 AM
Yeah, I did the command prompt....the site seems to work better in AOL then IE. I just don't know...I still haven't done my regular maintenance scicne re installing AOL, so maybe after I do that, it will help? I don't know, it is wierd.

Okaaaaayyyy, so now that I have been poking around MLW for a bit (I've been gone a week, and wehn I came back it had the xes) more and more graphics are showing up.....so maybe it takes a while for things to get reset? Because now the MLW logo is showing, as well as other small graphics....the only thing not showing up consistantly is the smilies...I can see some of them, but not all. WEIRD

That is really wierd because the way a computer works it really shouldn't be doing that but at the same time almost seems to be what your computer is doing.
I have no idea since I haven't have any of these problems at all.
Just a guess, but could this have something to do with the fact that we just changed servers? Maybe the people who are having issues are just slower to update after the move?
Jimbo
07-30-2006, 01:34 PM
What your describing it called a DNS error, but if that were the case all of use would be having problems and it wouldn't be just a few missing graphics it would be like "Page can't be displayed" type errors.
Like I said, just a guess
Jimbo
07-30-2006, 02:22 PM
I am not saying it was a bad guess or anything, and it is good sometimes to make suggestions like that. Sometimes I forget about certain things to try and when I hear a suggestion like that it will remind me or something else that I hadn't though of yet. :)

I don't know, but even every time I open the smilies more and more are showing up. My guess is it has something to do with my dial up accelorator, and it is taking a few to catch up to the change.

I didn't realise you were on dial up. That is probably your whole problem. Forums/message boards aren't really designed to work with dial up speed. Not to say they won't it just takes a long time. After a while of trying ot download one picture it will just give up because the connection times out. The ones you are seeing more and more of are the ones you have cached now so when you come back to a page it doesn't have to work as hard to work load again so you might get a few more.
Your problem makes more sense now but I still don't know why Lunarmagic would have the problem on FF but then not on IE.

Well then you would be in the group with lunar I don't know why you would be having a problem like that. Especially since it seems like you are the only 2 and Lunar only had a problem on one computer and when using FF. The way kris is starting to get them back little bit littel makes me believe that is her problem, but then that doesn't mean that is what it is.

Hey I'm having the same problem and just now saw this thread and wanted to join in! I've cleared my files and that didn't seem to work, and I'm on DSL so I just wanted to give some info. I'll be checking back to see if anyone comes up with anything.

This is true....but I still never had this problem BEFORE. Except with Kari's journal...my ISP never has liked her journal! LOL. But anyway, I think this is MY problem, but it doesn't explain everyone elses! ??????

My only thought is that it's a difference in coding?? I know how IE can translate things differently than FF sometimes... so maybe the "error" is getting caught by FF but being ignored in IE? I don't know. I'm totally stumped. I'm just living with the picture-free forum. I don't know what else to try!

Some people can't see images in either IE or FF, which boggles my mind too. I honestly have no idea what's going on here, but I'm still trying to figure it out.
Jimbo
07-30-2006, 06:06 PM
The ones that I have heard having the problems with IE so far are using IE 7 though. Lunar might be on to something that for some reason there is something that Firefox just is having a problem with right now. I kind of doubt it but that is only idea that seems possible right now.

Another question: What's the URL you are all using to get to the site? Are you typing 'www.mustloveweddings.com' or just 'mustloveweddings.com'? That may make a difference...

I'm using IE 6 just wanted to let ya know. After clearing all my files last night it seems like I can see a few of the graphics, which is odd but promising. I can see the banner for the site now and the reply and edit buttons, but there are still quite a few little x's. Someone else mentioned things came back slowly for them too, so maybe whatever the problem is doesnt fix itself automatically.

I've tried both and have the same issues, except that the graphics are coming back slowly but surely.
