Ok, so we decided to go with the M&M favors because our names are Melissa and Michael, so we thought it'd be cute. I'm just not sure how many M&M's come in a 7oz bag. I'm not getting the personalized ones, just regular black and white ones. I'm having about 300 guests, and I want to put them in the oval tool wrapped with ribbon. So my questions are how many come in a 7oz bag, and what are the suggestions on how many of the M&M's I should put in each favor? Thanks so much!! This will really help deciding how many to bags to buy!

Cute idea!

We did M&M favors too, I did a test run to figure out how many I would need. I got the containers we were using early and I just got a couple of the small bags of M&M. I filled up the container to the point where it looked good, then weighed it to see how many ounces it was. Then multiply that by guest count will tell you how many ounces you need.

:word: Pretty much what I was going to say. I would just buy a bag of regular M&Ms, get a container that's the same size as what you'll be using, and do some trial and error to get the right amount!

With some help from google I figured that 175 M&M's come in a 7 oz pack. Now sure how many to put in your tulle, just whatever looks good :)

Hi Melissa!!
We did the M&Ms for wedding favors. We cheated a little bit. :teehee: We got plain colored pink and white ones, then several bags of the printed ones with our name and wedding date. The plain ones really helped to stretch the printed ones! We could have never afforded to fill 250 bags with all printed ones. As it was, we spent $200 on M&Ms if I remember correctly, and that was with quite a bit of the plain ones mixed in.

I agree with doing the trial run with regular M&Ms! I think to get the tulle nice and filled you might only get 3 or 4 per 7 oz. bag.

Thanks Amanda. Yea, it is prob going to be a pretty penny, but it'll be cute! I decided not to do the printed ones because for one, I couldn't fit what I wanted on them, and 2, they were a lot more expensive. Your baby is precious!! I can't wait to be a mom, of course we plan on waiting about 3 yrs until we have one...but we never know what God has planned!

caution on M&Ms in tulle-

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago where the bride and groom had carefully placed M&Ms with their initials and wedding date into darling little net bags and tasteful ribbon ties

They were at each place setting

By the time the guests sat down for dinner, the dampness from the ice water in the water glasses had seeped onto the tablecloths and the M&Ms were a mess. A lot of guests didn't know they had been inscribed and dated. (altho the candy tasted fine!)

Perhaps you could put each packet of candy into a container that would not absorb the water?

hey bridget, I didn't think about that happening. I was actually thinking about putting them in a big basket next to the signing book, and the guests could grab one as they walked in. I'll look into some containers, I just thought the tulle would be less expensive since I'm on a budget, but thanks so much for the warning. I def don't want that to happen!

Here is what ours looked like

We used clear plastic cones from paper mart (http://www.papermart.com/templates/88-0-90.htm#GO_88110) and they cost 36 cents each there.

We used Reese's Pieces in tulle, and the reception site put them right onto the dinner plates instead of near the water glasses...you could always ask them how they usually do it, and request they do it a certain way for you.

I don't know if it would be much different from using tulle but we used little drawstring organza bags that I got off ebay and didn't have any problems. Like Amanda, we did a mixture of regular M&Ms and the printed ones.

Sarah, what did yall get print on the mm? I wanted to put March 6, 2009 or March 6, 09, maybe our names but you can't fit much on them, so that's why I decided to go with just the regular ones.

I think your idea of putting the tulle bags in a basket is a great one! You could decorate the basket as well to match the tulle.

With ours, we also had a framed saying that directed guests to take one (even though it's like, duh) because we also wanted to explain on ours why we used them- Hugo proposed with printed M&Ms and not everyone knew. :)

We had "Amanda & Hugo" and "July 15, 2006" on ours.

Aww, Amanda, that's so sweet! I didn't think the M&M's could fit all of that. Hmm, I might check it out again and see what I can get to fit on them.

I just bought some big bags and eyeballed it. I had a very small wedding though, I have no idea how much you would need for that many guests!

We had pretty much the same thing as Amanda, just our name & wedding date - "Keith & Sarah" and "June 30, 2007". You can play on the website and see what will fit and what won't. We didn't get all that on one M&M though...maybe that's why you couldn't get it to fit :dontknow:
