Super quick background:
We met on my 18th birthday, which also happened to be Friday the 13th. We’ve been together ever since, the last two of those years were long distance and we took a three month break (October 2003 – December 2003).
Story:
On January 2, 2004, the love hit the fan and he was telling me things I’d only dreamed of hearing from his lips. I needed to see his eyes before going any further, because the eyes don’t lie. On Friday, January 15th I flew out to see him (he of course paid for my ticket). The second I saw his eyes, I knew he was being sincere. That was enough for me, but it wasn’t for him. After getting off the escalators, hugging and giving me a beautiful bouquet of flowers, he took off his coat and had me stand on top of it (note he was wearing his best suit). In the middle of LAX, he got down on both knees and with tears in his eyes apologized and begged for forgiveness. There was a huge circle of people around us waiting for a proposal (that didn’t happen, lol). I just wanted him to get up off the floor! So I told him I forgave him (which I truly did forgive him) and pulled him up. This act of me standing on top of his coat signifies that he was giving up his pride, giving himself and his heart completely to me. I had to ask what it meant. *blushing* We spent the rest of the day talking and catching up; shopping, dinner, etc. It was a really nice day.
The next morning we drove up to Las Vegas and talked some more. Later that evening we went to dinner at Top of the World Restaurant, which is inside the Stratosphere. The restaurant revolves and you can see all of Vegas; it’s a gorgeous view. The food and service was EXCELLENT. After we finished eating, we ordered champagne and he insisted on dessert (even though we were stuffed). So while waiting for dessert, we were sitting next to each other talking and enjoying the view. Our second waiter asks if we’d like him to take a few pictures of us (I had my camera sitting on the table the entire night). I thought it was an excellent idea. The head waiter brought out dessert with my engagement ring on the plate.
I know he gave a beautiful speech, but being in TOTAL SHOCK, all I remember him asking is: “What do you say we wrap this up for the rest of our lives?” I of course said “yes”. Everyone around us in the restaurant was clapping and cheering for us. The rest of the night, we kept hugging and kissing and shaking. I couldn’t believe the moment I had been waiting for, for so long and pretty much given up on, had finally happened and so perfectly. The next morning is when we called and told everyone.
Here are pics of my engagement ring. He designed it himself and had it custom made; it's a king's crown to crown his queen. If you look at it carefully, you can see the crown. I love the thought behind it and that it's unique.
