I don't know if this has been discussed before, but do you and your husband have a will?

There was a local couple recently killed in a car accident whose two small children were left with a babysitter at the time.

Now that I have a child I have been considering drawing up a will. I know I'm young, but I really want to make sure Caleb gets raised by the person I think most fit. DH agrees wholeheartedly and we want my parents to get him if something ever happens to both of us. For past reasons we definitely don't want certain family members on his side to get him and know that they will try should anything happen.

Did you ever go to a lawyer to get a will made for such an event, or did you handwrite one? (I know in Texas this is legal as long as it is all written by one person and signed by said person)

We talked about it a tiny bit here. (http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3687) We still haven't written one-- it's on my 101 goals list. :hide:

We don't have one, but it's definately something that's on the back of my mind. We have one of those "Will Kits", but I have to look into it more - it's might be worth the extra $$ to us to just go to a lawyer to draft one - that way we hopefully won't miss anything.

I have been looking into making a will recently. I have to get off my lazy butt and do it! :hehe:

I REALLY need one because I have one son with a deadbeat loser (that I don't want getting his hands on any of my money because he will just go off and waste it on crap, but I have to have money set for my son), another son with my ex husband (so he needs separate money to take care of him) and my husband (obviously he will get the rest). So I need something in writing to make sure all 3 have what they need.

I already have life insurance policies (and just upped one to a larger amount). I just need to divy it up.

We did up our wills after a friend passed away in a car accident almost 2 years ago. He had a 2 year old & a 6 month old, & his wife, a SAHM, was 24. It made us realize that it was definitely something we needed, sadly. We both agreed that there were family members we didn't want raising our boys, so it basically says that anything we have goes either to the surviving spouse, or else it goes into a trust fund for the boys. We did ours through our lawyer.

Also, with our house & life insurance, we have it so that the surviving spouse or children get whatever. Because DH works & I don't, it's set so that if something happens to me, DH gets the minimum. But, should somthing happen to him, because I don't work, everything gets paid off, plus there is money I'd recieve.

It sucks to have to think of it, and even more tragic that something happens & makes you worry about having it done.
