I have a couple questions actually. First, when are you supposed to register? Does it really matter? Second, are you expected to make an appointment at your store of choice or do you just go in and let customer service know what you're there to do? I'm so lost.

We registered really early but I would think you want to register before any bridal showers. Just remember that things could get discontinued if you register too early. That happened to us. We never made an appointment. We just went down to the stores and went to the registry desk. No appointment was necessary.

We didn't make an appointment either. We just talked to a sales associate and they hooked us up, but we didn't register anywhere super fancy either!

We registered late summer for our winter wedding. And for both stores, we did not make appointments before going in, just went to the service desks.

A good rule of thumb to begin your registry is 6 months before your wedding. As others mentioned, many items on your list will be discontinued if you start too soon. You will want to register at stores that have both a local presence and a website. Some people want to walk in and buy you a gift while others are happy to purchase and have it sent.

:word: to what Diane said, especially in regards to websites and "brick and mortar".

I would also say that we didn't make an appointment, but it's easy enough to call the store ahead of time and make sure you don't need to, right? I know from when I worked in retail that smaller stores (non-chain) preferred it to ensure there was someone to assist you at all times.
